Matthew 7:24,25: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

The above quote is from Matthew’s gospel where Matthew writes much about Jesus’ life and teachings.  Referring to his teachings, Jesus is saying that whoever hears his words and puts them into practice, shows wisdom and stands on solid ground; the solid ground being the foundation of his teachings. How refreshing it is to Christians today to know, in this world of political turmoil, where the words of many world leaders prove to be false and misleading, that the teachings of Jesus are as true and valid today as they were when he first spoke them.

When we listen to the myriad of different teachings of men, it is so easy to feel as if we are being tossed about on a stormy ocean.  The winds of change and conflicting opinions beat us like gale force winds and we don’t know where to stand for security.

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6). Here are the words of the only person in history to be completely without sin and to keep every one of his promises.  His words (teachings) are truth and they are the way to life and eternal security.  When we hear the teachings of Jesus and live by them, we have a security that no-one else can give us.  The Bible calls this; “the peace that passes understanding.” (Phil 4:7).

No matter how stormy the seas of life get; no matter how much the winds of this world beat against us, if we listen to and trust in the words of Jesus, we have a solid foundation to stand on which will never let us down.

We must remember though, that to put the words of Jesus into practice, we need to hear the words of Jesus.  You are invited to come and join us at any of our weekly services, where we hear the words of Jesus and encourage one another as we put them into practice.
